St. Louis outlasts North Iowa, 4-2

The game between the St. Louis Jr. Blues and the North Iowa Bulls was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end St. Louis emerged with a 4-2 win.

The Jr. Blues gained the winning advantage on a goal by Franky Melton 12:55 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Melton was all over the ice for St. Louis, as he grabbed two goals in the win.

The Jr. Blues\’ penalty kill excelled, as St. Louis gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Others who scored for St. Louis included Sam Maddox and Steven Farina, who scored one goal each. In addition, St. Louis received assists from Tommy Heinzman, who had two and William Hindle, Trevor Thornton, Adam Havener, and Alex Klaesner, who each chipped in one.

North Iowa\’s offense rang up 55 shots on the Jr. Blues\’ net. The Bulls\’ defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. North Iowa averages 1.2 goal allowed per game.

The Bulls were helped by Joe Burgmeier, who finished with one goal. Burgmeier scored on the power play 7:48 into the second period to make the score 2-1 North Iowa. A slashing penalty on Heinzman had put North Iowa on the power play. Kurt Halbach picked up the assist. North Iowa also got a goal from Zachary Johnston as well. Other players who recorded assists for North Iowa were Hunter Smith and Trey Gardner, who contributed one each.

Hindle rejected 53 shots on goal for St. Louis. The Jr. Blues incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Tommi Ahlgren recorded 16 saves for the Bulls. North Iowa incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
