A QUICK RECAP: St. Louis got their second sweep in a row at the NA3HL Blaine Showcase, beating Alexandria 4-2, Sheridan 5-2 and Louisiana 7-2. Scoring was remarkably balanced for the Jr. Blues over the three games: Clayton Dawe and Joey Solimando (both 2 G, 3 A) led the team in scoring at the Showcase with 5 points, while Seamus Campbell (2 G, 2 A) had 4. The Jr. Blues have now won seven straight games at the Super Rink, going back to a 2017 win over Yellowstone.

CZECH HIM OUT: Jr. Blues social media maven Matt Kenyon will be writing about the Czech national junior team as part of 12OZ Sports’ coverage of the upcoming World Junior Championships. The Czechs will be hosting this year’s tournament in the cities of Ostrava and Trinec: a Czech representative team recently finished fourth at the World Junior A Challenge, an important tune-up event held annually in Canada. Catch all of Matt’s reports at www.12ozsportsradio.com.

SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS: Peoria also ran the table in Blaine, recording an 11-0 thrashing of Long Beach, a 5-1 decision over Gillette, and finally a 4-1 win over Mid-Cities. Austin Keil has been hot lately, recording points in six of his last seven games: he leads the ‘Stangs with 38 points (17 G, 21 A). Goaltending has been by and large split for Peoria this year, with Jaden Gardner having played two more games than Cole Walter: Gardner has the better goals-against (2.23 versus 2.90) and save percentage (.920 against .885), however. St. Louis comes into the weekend leading the season series 3-1.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM THE JR. BLUES: On behalf of the entire Jr. Blues and Affton Hockey organizations, we would like to wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous 2020. We can’t wait to see you at Affton Ice Rink when the Jr. Blues have their next home series, against New Ulm on January 25 and 26.
