Former St. Louis Jr. Blues defenseman Ryan Trenz committed to the University of Northern Michigan this week. Trenz lasted suited up for the Jr. Blues in 2009-10 where he was a force on the blueline, helping the Jr. Blues win the Tier III Jr. A National Championship. Head Coach J.P. Beilsten said, "We wouldn't have won that Championship if we didn't have Ryan on the blueline. He was a threat two different ways. If you let him shoot, the puck was going to be hard and on net, if not in the net. If you guarded against his shot, he opened up the ice down low."
Trenz said, "I visited NMU last summer and I really like the campus. I went on the official visit earlier in January and got to meet the coaching staff and saw a game the next day. I really liked the facilities and the head coach, Walt Kyle, has a great background in coaching."
Beilsten continued, "We couldn't be happier for Ryan. He is such a good kid and and hard worker! He told us before he went to Chicago that his choice school was NMU. We didn't doubt that he would end up there."
