AFFTON — St. Louis Jr. Blues forward Matthew McGowan has committed to Missouri State University ACHA Division One Hockey Club to continue his hockey career at the collegiate level.

“Matthew was a strong two-way forward for us.  He played a 200 foot game, excellent on the PK and was very good at winning faceoffs” said former Jr. Blues GM and head coach Chris Flaugher. “Missouri State is getting a smart player who can contribute in several different ways to a hockey team,” added Flaugher.

After joining the Jr. Blues from a stint in the NAHL, the 2002 birthyear forward from Imperial, MO scored 17 goals and added 11 assists for 28 points.  Prior to his junior career McGowan was a standout forward for the St. Louis Amateur AAA Blues program and Seckman Highschool.

McGowan will be joining teammate Joey Boccardi who recently committed to Missouri State, along with some former recent alumni of the Jr. Blues program, Mark Capkovic and Jacob Weithaupt.
