The St. Louis Jr. Blues, proud members of the NA3HL, are pleased to announce that defenseman Mark Capkovic has committed to play college hockey at Missouri State University. The Ice Bears, located in Springfield, Mo., play ACHA Division I hockey in the Western Collegiate Hockey League.
A native of St. Louis who grew up playing for the Affton Americans, the 5’9”, 175 lb lefty spent two seasons with the Jr. Blues, bracketing a year in the North American Hockey League with the Shreveport Mudbugs. In those two years, Capkovic played in 65 games for the Jr. Blues, scoring 11 goals and 31 assists, while accumulating a total plus-minus rating of +27. He was a major contributor to St. Louis’ 2018 Fraser Cup Final run, where he dressed in seven playoff games and scored five points (1 G, 4 A). He also took part in the 2018 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament as a member of the 18U Selects White squad: he scored four assists at that edition of the TPT, held in Plymouth, Michigan.
“Cappy was a solid, consistent contributor during his time with the Jr. Blues,” said St. Louis head coach Chris Flaugher. “He is an intelligent player who distributed the puck well. Missouri State is lucky to get a player of his caliber and we wish him nothing but the best.”
Capkovic becomes the sixth Jr. Blues player to commit to play college hockey this off-season. He will be following in the footsteps of several Jr. Blues stars who patrolled the blue line in Springfield, such as graduating captain Chris Brown (2013-16) and fellow graduate Brian Schumacher (2014-16).
