The Peoria Mustangs used a sparkling performance by Marc Hayton to take down the St. Louis Jr. Blues, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Peoria\’s 5-0 shutout victory.
Andrej Buchko had two goals to lead the Mustangs to victory. Buchko\’s tallies came at 10:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Peoria and on the power play 14:11 into the third to make the score 4-0 Peoria.
Peoria stifled St. Louis\’ power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Jr. Blues were unable to stop the Mustangs from sending pucks towards the net, and Peoria eventually piled up 43 shots on goal.
Peoria also got a goal from Mitchell McPherson as well. In addition, Peoria received assists from Marc Peters, Jack Power Wayvon, Joe Power Wayvon, Marshall Gevers, and Jason Henry, who each chipped in one and Kai Barber and Nick Conner, who contributed two each.
St. Louis\’ offense operated below its season average. The Jr. Blues put an average of 2.9 pucks into the net per game. Penalties took their toll on St. Louis, as its penalty kill unit let in two power play goals.
Marc Hayton made 25 saves for the Mustangs on 25 shots. Peoria incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Jr. Blues\’ William Hindle stopped 38 shots out of the 43 that he faced. St. Louis incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
