Flint hangs on, beats St. Louis 3-1

Ryan Burr gave the Flint Junior Generals the lead in the first period, and the St. Louis Jr. Blues was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-1.

Burr provided Flint with the game-winning tally when he scored 3:18 into the first period. Jacob Lainesse provided the assist.

The win gave the Junior Generals a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

Flint\’s Anders Franke was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 33 saves and let only one puck past him. Despite the solid performance, Franke will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.

The Junior Generals were sparked by Austin Fletcher, who tallied one goal. Fletcher scored 2:42 into the third period to make the score 2-0 Flint. Conor Durgan picked up the assist.

Flint excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Flint also got a goal from Brett Leppek as well. In addition, Flint received assists from Trevor Benaglio, who had one.

St. Louis\’ offense rang up 34 shots on the Junior Generals\’ net. The Jr. Blues did not rack up many penalties in the contest, registering only one minor for two minutes in penalty time.

St. Louis was led by Maxwell Cobb, who scored the team\’s only goal. Cobb scored 6:08 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Flint. Tommy Heinzman provided the assist.

Flint incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Jr. Blues\’ Cooper Cothran stopped 23 shots out of the 25 that he faced.
