Brian McGlynn To Become New Jr. Blues Head Coach/GM

AFFTON — Brian McGlynn has been named head coach and general manager of hockey operations for the St. Louis Junior Blues. Chris Flaugher, who coached the team and served as general manager since the 2013-14 season, stepped down at the end of the 2020-21 season.

McGlynn has been the head coach of the St. John Vianney High School hockey team for the past ten years, winning the MidStates Club Hockey Association Championship in 2020. Brian was a four-year varsity starter at St. Thomas University in St. Paul, MN and served as an assistant captain his senior year. McGlynn was a two-time all-conference defenseman, the 1982 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year, and St. Thomas MVP.

After graduating, McGlynn joined the St. Thomas University coaching staff as an assistant coach from 1982-84. He returned to St. Louis and became involved in youth hockey, coaching for Affton Hockey and Meramec Hockey as well as serving as head coach for Lindbergh and Oakville High Schools. A native of St. Louis, McGlynn was a four-year varsity player at St. John Vianney. He was inducted into the Vianney Hockey Hall of Fame in 2017 and his number 20 is retired by the school.

In Flaugher’s eight years as head coach, the Jr. Blues were Midwest Division regular season champions three times and Central Division playoff champions two times. The team advanced to the Fraser Cup Final Four in 2019 and played in the National Championship game in 2018. Flaugher was named NA3HL general manager of the year in 2016. Many of his players advanced to collegiate and tier two junior teams. Flaugher is a former player and captain for the Jr. Blues who played hockey at St. Mary’s University in Winona, MN. After completing his collegiate career, Flaugher returned to St. Louis and worked as an assistant coach for the Jr. Blues while also coaching in the Affton Americans CSDHL program. He won a national championship as head coach of the Affton Americans CSDHL Midget Major team in 2013. Next season, Flaugher will serve as the head coach of the St. Louis Eagles 10U CSDHL team.

The St. Louis Jr. Blues are a Tier III Junior A ice hockey team in the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL). Based out of the Affton Ice Rink, the St. Louis Jr. Blues organization has been part of St. Louis hockey for more than 30 years and has won five USA Hockey National Championships.
