Pens Demote Eric Tangradi And Tim Wallace, Set To Promote Joe Vitale

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced they have sent forwards Eric Tangradi and Tim Wallace back to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.

With Matt Cooke being suspended for the next four games, the team is set to call up new farmhands. Reputable twitter reports say Joe Vitale is on his way up for his NHL debut.

Vitale, a 7th round draft pick in 2005, has spent the past few years in WB/S. He’s a checking center that doesn’t have much size but has carved out a niche in the minors as a gritty and tough competitior. In order for maximum salary cap savings, the move is expected to be announced on Thursday.

With only the Vitale promotion leaked, the team will likely have one of injured forwards Chris Kunitz or Arron Asham back in the lineup.  Kunitz was a last minute scratch for an unknown lower body injury on Tuesday.  Asham's been out for two weeks with an upper body injury.  If neither forward can play, and no other call ups are made, the team will have to go with eleven forwards and seven defensemen.
