YOUNG GIVEN GOALIE OF THE MONTH HONORS

Oct 6, 2015

As part of the NA3HL's league-wide awards for the month of September, goaltender Zach Young was named the VAUGHN Goalie of the Month.

The native of Robertsville, MO, posted a 1.50 goals against average and a .947 save percentage during the month of September as he allowed just six goals on 114 shots. Young (5’10/170) has not let up more than two goals in any one game and three of his four wins were on the road. He made 30+ saves in wins in Nashville and Peoria. For the past three seasons, Young has played with the St. Louis Selects in the NAPHL.

“From the first day of the season, Zach has come in and impressed the coaching staff. He battles and competes every time he's in the net. He is always in position and our record reflects his play in goal,” said St. Louis head coach Chris Flaugher.

Two other Jr. Blues players were also noted in the monthly awards: Zach Mitchell (Chicago, IL) and Hayden Smer (Laguna Niguel, CA) were named as honorable mention recipients in the forward and defenseman of the month categories.

The Jr. Blues return to the Affton Ice Rink to take on the Cincinnati Thunder in a two-game set this weekend: the puck drops at 7 P.M. on Saturday and 1 P.M. on Sunday. In addition to being a top of the Midwest Division clash, this weekend is also "Pink the Rink" weekend: special apparel will be on sale with proceeds supporting breast cancer research in the St. Louis metro area.
