St. Louis beats Point Mallard 4-2 after comeback scare

St. Louis survived a determined comeback attempt by Point Mallard on the way to a 4-2 win.

A goal by Tomas Loeffelman put St. Louis up 4-1 in the third period, but Point Mallard pulled to within two on Austin Weber\’s tally 19:31 into the third period.

Alex Klaesner had two goals to lead St. Louis to victory. Klaesner scored at 17:44 into the first period to make the score 2-0 St. Louis and again while 6:12 into the third to make the score 3-1 St. Louis.

St. Louis forced Point Mallard\’s goalies to work between the pipes, finishing with 35 shots and forcing 31 saves. Cooper Seedott made 25 stops and Josh Martin made six.

St. Louis additionally got points from Loeffelman, who also had one goal and one assist. Daniel Dunaway also scored for St. Louis. In addition, St. Louis received assists from Sam Maddox, who had three and Ryan Reader, Brian Schumacher, and CJ Nitchen, who each chipped in one.

Point Mallard was held below its usual level of production. Point Mallard puts an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. Point Mallard\’s offense rang up 42 shots on St. Louis\’ net.

Point Mallard was helped by Justin Clark, who grabbed one goal. Clark scored on the power play 1:28 into the second period to make the score 2-1 St. Louis. Point Mallard had gotten the advantage when St. Louis\’ Cameron McAtee was sent off for tripping. Josh Hamilton provided the assist. More assists for Point Mallard came via Matt Goodman, who had one.

Zach Young recorded 40 saves for St. Louis. St. Louis incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Point Mallard incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
