Ground the Jets!
The Jr. Blues looked remarkably fresh Sunday afternoon and
skated with purpose. The first period was all St. Louis
but the Jets goaltender was spectacular. With 8
seconds remaining in the period, Tim Jost blasted
a one timer off a Brendan Sheehan drop pass.
Chris Saracino also assisted. the Jr. Blues
out shot the Jets 20-7 in the period. The second period
was more domination as the Jr. Blues fired 17 shots to the Jets

scoring on the period's first shift. The next time the Kretzer,

appeared they scored again, this time Effinger
roofed a perfect shot. The line's third shift of the
period resulted in another goal as Effinger
tapped in a Barron shot giving the Jr. Blues a 4-0 lead.

Kretzer's Hat-trick Leads the
Jr. Blues Past the Jets!
Ryan Kretzer took matters into his own hands
Saturday night. With the Jr. Blues sluggish and the
Jets outworking the home team, Kretzer scored
the Jr. Blues only goal of the first period. The goal came
just 39 seconds after the Jets had taken a 1-0 lead on a power
play goal. Kretzer then scored the only goal
of the second period as he and Eddie Effinger
combined on a short handed goal.
After two periods, the shots were nearly even and the play was
too. The Jr. Blues found some energy and blitzed the Jets
with 20 third period shots. Grant Everett
scored early in the third to give the Jr. Blues a 3-1 lead.
Then Kretzer completed his hat-trick on a
breakaway moments later. Line mates Effinger
and Ryan Loach each scored power play goals then
Max Barron completed the scoring. Robby

Jr. Blues
Lose Tough One to Texarkana Bandits
With a large crowd at the Affton Ice Rink the Jr. Blues were
seemingly intimidated early on as the very big and talented
Texarkana Bandits dominated the early play. Jr. Blues
goaltender Robby Moss was very sharp early and
kept the Jr. Blues in the game. Midway through the first
period, Bill McMillen scored the game's first
goal. The Bandits responded with two first period tallies
to take a 2-1 lead.
The second period seemed to be like two different games.
The first 10 minutes the Jr. Blues dominated out shooting the
Bandits and having numerous scoring chances. The second 10
minutes were the exact opposite as the Bandits dominated the Jr.
Blues and scored the period's only goal.
The third period showed the heart and character of the young Jr.
Blues team. They pressured the Bandits with numerous
scoring chances early. Then, Tom Lange sent Bill
McMillen and Brendan Sheehan in on a 2 on
1 break. McMillen made a very poised play
and set up Sheehan perfectly as he slammed it home
to cut the Bandits lead to 3-2. The Jr. Blues had numerous
other chances with Ryan Loach having two glorious
scoring chances. He hit the crossbar on a breakaway
and was robbed with a spectacular save by the Bandits
goaltender. With seemingly all the momentum in St. Louis'
favor, the Bandits broke the Jr. Blues heart late in the period.
On a seemingly harmless play, a centering pass from the corner
deflected off a Jr. Blues skate into the net. With a few
moments remaining in the game, the Bandits added one more to
make the final 5-2.
After the game, Bandits Head Coach Jon Cooper came
into the Jr. Blues locker room to express his impressions of the
young Jr. Blues. Coach Cooper was impressed
with the talent and work ethic and appreciated the tough game to
help him prepare his squad for their season.
The Jr. Blues wish to thank Kelly Chase, an owner
of the Bandits who set up the game with the Jr. Blues and also Jon
Cooper and his entire staff. This game benefited
both programs. The Bandits got to see a young talented
team giving them first hand knowledge of possible future
recruits. The Jr. Blues benefited greatly, playing a Jr. A
team and being able to display their abilities against the
Bandits.

Jr. Blues
Get Plenty of Offense Again!
Jr. Blues center Kyle Gouge has scored a goal in
each of his games played this year including the two exhibition
games. It didn't take him long to keep that streak alive
as just four minutes into the game he blasted a shot past the
Jr. Lumberjacks goaltender. Paul Puglisi and
Ryan Loach assisted on the goal. Brendan
Sheehan showed his grit later in the period. Sheehan
outworked the Jr. Lumberjack defenseman and won a battle in the
corner. Sheehan then walked out of the
corner and placed a perfect shot to give the Jr. Blues a 2-0
first period lead.
The second period started slow for the home team with Cleveland
applying pressure. But Grant Everett led a
rush down the ice. Everett shot, gathered
his own rebound and slid it to Max Barron who
slammed it into the empty net. The Jr. Blues power play
then took over. Ryan Holzum converted a Barron
rebound with Everett also assisting giving the Jr.
Blues a 4-0 lead. Then Kyle Gouge sniped a
quick shot on the power play off a Chad Larkowski
feed. The Jr. Lumberjacks did score a power play goal
themselves to make the score 5-1 after two.
The third period was another strong showing for the Jr. Blues.

time Max Barron completed a great passing play by Grant
Everett and Ryan Holzum. The

Jr.
Blues Rally Past the Force!
After an emotional home opener, the Jr. Blues
certainly looked sluggish on Sunday. Despite the heavy legs
and low intensity, the Jr. Blues struck first. Ryan
Loach scored his first CSHL goal on the power play just 3
minutes into the game. Loach received a perfect
pass from Chad Larkowski on a 3 on 2 break. Loach
made no mistake as he drove the net and tapped in the feed.
The Force quickly tied the score on a power play goal off a rebound.
The second period started rocky for the home team as Chicago scored
a fluke goal that fluttered in off a broken stick. The
inspired Force team seemed to celebrate a bit too early though as
the Jr. Blues then picked up the intensity. Despite bombing
the Chicago net with 19 shots in the period, there was only one goal
for the Jr. Blues. Ryan Kretzer scored to tie it
up after a tremendous flurry put on by his line. C. J.
Chappell and Eddie Effinger both assisted on
the goal. The period was marred by a serious St. Louis injury
on a slew foot after the whistle. The young Jr. Blues
defenseman Patrick Sheehan required an ambulance to an
area hospital with a dislocated knee cap.
The third period had an additional 2 minutes tacked on because of
the injury late in the 2nd period. The Jr. Blues were
obviously determined not to allow the incident to keep them from
completing their sweep of Chicago. Kyle Gouge
gave the Jr. Blues the lead as a Chad Larkowski shot
deflected off him. Chris Saracino also assisted
on the goal. The Jr. Blues were still buzzing moments later as
Max Barron scored his first CSHL goal to give the Jr.
Blues a 4-2 lead. The Jr. Blues then maintained their cool as
the goonish tactics of the frustrated Chicago team didn't rattle the
young home team. Cory Spradling put a little
icing on the cake as he scored a short handed empty net goal to give
St. Louis a 5-2 victory. Robby Moss recorded his
first CSHL victory and was very impressive in the hectic game making
33 saves on 35 shots.

Effinger. Cory Spradling also assisted

assisted on the goal. Later in the period, vet Brendan
Sheehan knocked in a Tom Lange rebound as St.

gave the Jr. Blues a 5-0 lead with Eddie Effinger and Ryan
