Andrew Kurlandski's Six Goals Pace Jr. Blues!

After missing 6 games to an injury, Jr. Blues Captain Andrew Kurlandski made up for lost time this weekend against the Grand Rapids Jr. Owls.  The 10-1 pasting was led by Kurlandski's Jr. Blues record six goals!  Kurlandski who scored 2 goals and 2 assists the night before also added an assist giving him 8 goals and 3 assists for the weekend.

The fun began with a Jr. Blues 5 on 3 power play.  Phil Blackwood took a pass from CJ Jung and hit Kurlandski back door for the first goal.  A few moments later, Grant Boyd took a shot and Kurlandski knocked home the rebound for his second of the game.  Phil Blackwood also assisted.  Jack Berger scored in his third consecutive game off a pretty feed from Mike Daniels making it 3-0.  After Grand Rapids made it 3-1, Andrew Kurlandski completed his first period hat-trick as he intercepted a pass on the boards and walked into the slot beating the goaltender.  The second period continued the show as Kurlandski converted a Ryan Devine and Phil Blackwood passing play giving the Jr. Blues a 5-1 lead.  Nick Garlik then scored on a breakaway with Eric Aldag and Zach Hamilton assisting.  Phil Blackwood got in on the fun with Kurlandski and Chris Hutton assisting.  Kurlandski then scored his 5th of the game as he converted a Hutton rebound with Blackwood also assisting.  Defenseman Matt Sieb then scored his first CSHL goal with a blast from the point on the power play.  John Wright and Justin Roux assisted on the goal.

Between periods Coach Jack Behan informed Andrew Kurlandski he was one goal shy of setting a Jr. Blues record six goals.  It took just 9 seconds for his line mates Chris Hutton and Phil Blackwood to set up Kurlandski in the third period.  Kurlandski set up all alone by the Blackwood feed made no mistake making Jr. Blues history scoring his sixth goal of the game.  The Jr. Blues put a stop to the scoring and cruised to a 10-1 victory.  Goaltender Max Ozawa made 15 saves to win the game.

Jr. Blues Break Losing Streak! Defeat Jr. Owls 8-2!

The Jr. Blues got a bit closer to being healthy as Captain Andrew Kurlandski returned after a 6 game absence to injury.  Also it was the second weekend for defenseman John Wright who looked like he knocked off 6 months worth or rust helping to solidify the Jr. Blues defense.
Phil Blackwood scored a pretty goal with Chris Hutton hitting Blackwood on the 2 on 1 while streaking back door to the net.  Andrew Kurlandski set up the break also assisted.  After the Jr. Owls tied the score, Andrew Kurlandski scored a back door driving play on a 2 on 1.  This time Phil Blackwood was the playmaker hitting Kurlandski at the crease.  Chris Hutton also assisted.  Early in the second period, Mike Daniels converted a JP Burkemper rebound scoring his first CSHL goal.  Jack Berger also assisted on the goal.  Late in the second period, Andrew Kurlandski tapped in a centering pass from Phil Blackwood to take a 4-1 lead.  Chris Hutton also assisted.   Early in the third period Jay Roux tapped in a Eric Aldag rebound with Justin Roux also assisting.  Then Justin Roux scored his first CSHL goal as John Wright set him up in the slot and Justin made a perfect shot.  Jay Roux also assisted on the goal.  Jack Berger scored in his second consecutive game with Mike Daniels and JP Burkemper assisting.  Phil Blackwood finished the scoring with Chris Hutton and Andrew Kurlandski assisting.  Stu Scott was solid making 14 saves on 16 shots.   The win broke the Jr. Blues 8 game losing streak.

Jr. Blues Blow Another One in a Heartbreaker!

In what has become a reoccurring theme, late third period goals have killed the Jr. Blues.  J.P. Burkemper gave the Jr. Blues the lead converting a rebound early in the first period.  Nick Garlik and Jack Berger assisted.  The Quad City Jr. Flames scored 2 goals to make it 2-1 after one period.  With the Jr. Blues on a 5 on 3 power play, the first penalty expired and the Jr. Blues defense didn't cover as the Flames player scored on a breakaway.  Moments later the Jr. Flames scored a power play goal padding their lead to 4-1.  J. P. Burkemper then scored his second goal of the game making it 4-2 with Andrew Clark and Jack Berger assisting.  Quad City came right back to take a 5-2 lead but Chris Hutton cut the lead to 5-3 with CJ Jung and Sam Davis assisting.  The third period was wild with the Flames taking the lead 6-3 early.  David Ulm redirected a Sam Davis shot to cut it to 6-4.  Jack Berger then made it close scoring his first CSHL goal with Mike Daniels recording his first CSHL assist.  Nick Garlik seemed to be the hero as he tied the score with 2:21 remaining streaking down the right side scoring on a quick shot.  CJ Jung and Grant Boyd assisted.  But with just 26 seconds remaining, the Jr. Flames won a face-off in the Jr. Blues end and a missed assignment cost the Jr. Blues as the Jr. Flames center converted the rebound.  The loss was the Jr. Blues 8th consecutive loss and put the Jr. Blues in 10th place in the CSHL.

Jr. Blues Lose Controversial Game To Dubuque

With the Jr. Blue playing the first place Dubuque Thunderbirds well, the Thunderbirds scored first.  But Sam Davis tied the score as he intercepted a clearing pass and wristed a quick shot past the goaltender.  The second period was very exciting with back and forth play.  Phil Blackwood completed a picture perfect 3 on 2 break with a snipe from the slot.  Chris Hutton and CJ Jung assisted on the goal.  With the Jr. Blues making a quick neutral zone transition, Jay Roux went in all alone and made a perfect move to give St. Louis a 3-1 lead.  Ryan Devine and Justin Roux assisted on the goal.  With the Jr. Blue killing their second 2 man disadvantage the Thunderbirds scored to cut the lead.  The Thunderbirds seemingly tied the score but the officials ruled it was knocked in with a high stick.  Then, with the Jr. Blues having a delayed penalty, the Thunderbirds scored a controversial goal in which the officials ruled they had not hit in with his hand.  With the game tied 3-3 in the third period, both teams had opportunities.  It was the Thunderbirds third 2 man advantage that broke the backs of the visiting Jr. Blues with 2 minutes to play.  The Thunderbirds scored after an apparent no call on a check from behind to add further controversy to the game.  Dubuque then scored an empty net goal in the last 4 seconds.

Jr. Blues Get Smoked by Jr. Generals

With the Jr. Blues just fielding 13 skaters the Flint Jr. Generals had no trouble with the downward trending Jr. Blues.  Three goals in the first period against Alex Effinger, making his CSHL debut, put the Jr. Blues in the hole.  The Jr. Gens scored 3 more in the second period.  The third period the Jr. Blues short handed group battled to the final buzzer out shooting the Jr. Generals 15-3 but scored only one goal as Phil Blackwood snipped a pretty shot with Grant Boyd and CJ Jung assisting.  The final was 7-1 and the Jr. Blues have lost six straight games.
