Missing 7 Players
Does Not Slow Down
Jr. Blues Against Chicago!
Four Power
Play Goals Doom the Force!
The Jr. Blues missing 5 to the CSHL Midgets and injuries to
Bill McMillen and CJ Jung in
Friday's game left the Jr. Blues with a skeleton squad. The
remaining players made the point that this Jr. Blues team was
deep and extremely talented down to the last man. The
Jr. Blues found themselves in a familiar situation with the
Force with an early power play. Tom Lange
hit Tim Jost on a long pass sending Jost
in all alone. Jost made a perfect move
giving the Jr. Blues the lead. The Force tied the score
half way through the period. Then late in the period, Lange
sent his other line mate, Ryan Loach into
the zone. Loach put a dangle move undressing
the Chicago defenseman and then beat the goaltender as he skated
in alone scoring a spectacular goal. The Jr. Blues moments
later were back on the power play, this time Chris
Saracino scored from the point with Kyle Gouge
and Grant Everett assisting. Then
two minutes later, with the Jr. Blues again on the power play, Tom
Lange scored on a one timer from the slot off a Joe
Combs pass. Ryan Loach recorded
the second assist.
Midway through the second period, the Force scored a power
play goal themselves cutting the Jr. Blues lead to 4-2.
Ryan Loach then put the game out of reach late in
the period lifting a shot over the goaltender from in tight with
Chad Larkowski assisting. Tom Lange
added a little icing on the cake in the third period with yet
another power play goal with Tim Jost and Ryan
Loach assisting. Goaltender Cal Heeter
made numerous key saves in the second and third period further
demonstrating his outstanding skill in CSHL play.
The Jr. Blues swept the Chicago Force despite playing two
players short on the roster. Also without injured
defenseman Pat Sheehan still missing from the
September injury against the Force. The Jr. Blues in their
tradition of player promotion had 5 players in Dallas
representing the CSHL in a Midget Tournament. The five
players included CSHL leading goaltender Rob Moss,
CSHL Leading scorer Ryan Kretzer, Top 5
CSHL Scorer Eddie Effinger, Leading CSHL Defense
Scorer Bret Morrell, and Second Leading Defense
Scorer Dan Weiss. The CSHL Midgets lost in
OT in the Championship Game in Dallas. All five players
were received heavy attention and have numerous tender and
playing offers. The Chicago Force did not send a
single player to the the Tournament citing they
thought it was more important to stay home and play
St. Louis than to represent the CSHL.

Jr.
Blues Dominate Force!
The Jr. Blues were missing five top players in the CSHL Midget
Showcase (Rob Moss, Ryan Kretzer,
Eddie Effinger, Bret Morrell and Danny
Weiss). The Chicago Force opted not to send a
player to the CSHL Midget Team. With the Force hoping to
catch the shorthanded Jr. Blues they started the game with a
reckless abandon. Just 2 minutes into the game, a Force
player viciously hit Jr. Blues Bill McMillen from
behind head first into the boards knocking him unconscious
for several minutes. Bill was removed from
the ice via ambulance suffering from a concussion and a broken
cheek bone. This was the second time in as many games a
Jr. Blues player had to be removed from the ice via ambulance
because of cheap illegal hits by the Force. The Jr. Blues
were shaken by the injury but determined to make the Force pay.
On the five minute power play, the Jr. Blues scored twice.
Chris Saracino blasted a shot from the point past
the Force goaltender off a Ryan Loach pass.
Then, 35 seconds later while still on the power play, Joe
Combs scored his first CSHL goal on a blast from the
point. Kyle Gouge assisted the goal.
The first period Jr. Blues barrage continued as Max
Barron made it 3-0. Chad Larkowski
started the play into the zone and hit Barron
driving the net beating his man. Ryan Loach
scored a pretty goal late in the period giving the Jr.
Blues a 4-0 first period lead.
The Force scored a goal in the second period to cut the
lead to 4-1. But Kyle Gouge finished a
classic cycling/battling play with a backhander in front.
That concluded the scoring but the Force continued their
trademark play injuring another Jr. Blues player with a
questionable hit late in the third period. Cal
Heeter was very strong in goal making 32 saves on
33 shots.

Jr. Blues
Beat Flint in Close Game!
The Jr. Blues found a way to win again missing several key
players. The key to the Jr. Blues season so far has been
their ability to win game despite missing numerous players.
Sunday was no different as the Jr. Blues continued their march
through the CSHL. The Jr. Blues scored first as Cal
Heeter set up the puck behind his net for defenseman Chris
Saracino. Saracino quickly skated
the puck and hit Grant Everett with a perfect
pass. Everett then undressed the Flint
defenseman and made a beautiful move on the Flint goaltender
give the Jr. Blues the lead. Flint then tied the score
later in the period. In the second period, the Jr. Blues
had a key 5 on 3 power play. C.J. Chappell
finished a the play as Bill McMillen set up Tim
Jost in the slot. Jost quickly fed
it to Chappell who banged it home. The
three forwards would combine again late in the second. McMillen
hit Chappell coming out of the defensive zone.
Chappell gained the Flint zone and hit Jost
in the high slot. A quick accurate shot by Jost
gave the Jr. Blues a 3-1 lead after two period. The third
period got interesting with 9 minutes to play as a long shot
beat the screened Heeter in nets for St. Louis.
With less than 5 minutes to play, Flint had a key power play.
But the Jr. Blues killed off the penalty and withstood Flint
pulling their goaltender in the final minute.

Cal Heeter started the season playing for the
Affton Americans Midget AA Central States Development Team and
now find himself being a go to guy for the Jr. Blues. Last
month, with Robby Moss playing for the CSHL All
stars, Heeter played his first CSHL game against
the Toledo Cherokee. His performance was so good, he
earned another start the next weekend in Cincinnati.
Another solid performance placed him permanently on the team.
With an injury the last two weekends to Moss, Heeter
has been the guy in all four games. In just his 5th CSHL
start, he shutout the Metro Jets Saturday night making 26 saves.
After a scoreless first period, Heeter was tested
with numerous scoring chances in the second period including
two breakaways. Heeter stood tall and on the
other end of the ice 5'6" Ryan Kretzer stood
tall too. Kretzer scored the first goal
after Paul Puglisi shot was redirected by Eddie
Effinger. Kretzer then gathered the
rebound firing it in the net. Kretzer then
won a key offensive face-off winning it cleanly to Chad
Larkowski who wristed a shot past the Jets goaltender.
Late in the period, Larkowski sent Kretzer
in on the goaltender as Kretzer's move fooled the
goalie giving the Jr. Blues a 3-0 lead. The third period
was a strong period for the Jr. Blues shutting down the Jets and
securing the shutout for Heeter.
