Jr.
Blues Pull Out 3rd Period For 4-2 Win!
Sunday's game versus the Express was similar to
Saturday's as the two teams battled the entire 60 minutes.
The Jr. Blues dominated the first period but had nothing to show
for their efforts. The second period started with the
Express scoring the game's first goal. With the Express
energized by their power play goal, the momentum seemed to be
shifting their way. But Kyle O'Kane changed
the momentum back to the Jr. Blues as he roofed a perfect shot
from the top of the circle. Zach Barron and Eddie
Effinger assisted on the goal. With the Jr. Blues
pressuring, Ryan Kretzer took a Tony Jost
cycle pass behind the net. With Kretzer
heading one direction he reversed his flow and hit Cory
Spradling who was cutting to the net. Spradling
made no mistake and gave the Jr. Blues a 2-1 lead.
The third period was exciting as the Express tied the game
early. The Jr. Blues again took advantage of the power
play as Ryan Kretzer scored his second game
winner. Tony Jost set up the goal and Cory
Spradling also assisted on the pretty passing play.
The Express pulled their goalie late in the game and applied
pressure. But Kyle O'Kane scored an empty
net goal thanks to the tough play of Zach Barron
and Eddie Effinger.

Blues Win 3-1 Over Express
The third place Quad City Express came to St. Louis looking
for an upset. The Jr. Blues had other things on their mind as the two
teams battled for 60 minutes. The game was full of big hits and tough,
physical hockey as both teams competed hard. The first period saw one
goal as Kyle O'Kane converted a Zach Barron
centering pass. O'Kane was stopped on the first shot but
he then slammed home the rebound.
After an exciting scoreless second period, the Jr. Blues power play was the
difference in the third period. Ryan Kretzer scored on a
pretty passing play from Tony Jost and Pete Wildhaber.
Then, two minutes later Mike Keeven also lit the lamp on the
power play with a great shot from the top of the circle with O'Kane
and Eddie Effinger assisting.
This game though was won by the defense and goaltending of the Jr. Blues.
The Express broke Blake Yanics shutout bid with 3 minutes
remaining as Blake made 22 saves in the game. The biggest
saves came early in the second period with the Jr. Blues holding a one goal
lead. The Jr. Blues took three penalties within one minute but killed
them all off including over three minutes of 5 on 3. The play of
defensemen Keeven, Wildhaber, Chris Stock,
Mike Hewkin, Pat Dolan and Andrew Gibson
was described by the coaching staff as their best performance of the year.

Jr.
Blues Sweep Chiefs!
With a lineup missing several regulars, the Jr.
Blues once again show their dominance of the Chiefs. Brandon
Bollig scored a power play goal on a great pass from Pete
Wildhaber to open the scoring for the Jr. Blues.
On the play Ken Grasso won the draw cleanly to Mike
Keeven who made a quick pass to defense partner Pete
Wildhaber. Wildhaber moved into the
slot seemingly to shoot then hit Bollig on the
back side for the goal. The Chiefs tied the game moments
later as the period ended 1-1. The second period was a
good one for the Jr. Blues. After the Chiefs took the lead
early in the period, Eddie Effinger scored a
highlight reel type of goal as he undressed a defenseman and
goaltender. Then moments later, Kyle O'Kane
sniped a perfect shot over the goaltender's glove on the power
play. Just 30 seconds later, Cory Spradling
beat a defenseman and deposited another goal for the home team.
Barry Baxter gave the Jr. Blues a 5-2 lead early
in the third period. On the play, Ken Grasso
made a power move on the defenseman then hit Brandon
Bollig with a drop pass. Bollig then
quickly hit Baxter who was driving the net for the
goal. The Chiefs scored a late goal but the Jr. Blues shut
down Motor City and swept the weekend. The Jr. Blues
outshot the Chiefs 45-20.

Jr.
Blues Comeback to Defeat the Chiefs!
With several top players not in the lineup, the Jr. Blues
courageously battled back for a come from behind win. The lineup was
missing 3 forwards that have scored a total 40 goals between them and two top
defensemen, but depth of the Jr. Blues prevailed. After the Chiefs
scored first, Tom Craig evened the score with a great goal.
Craig powered his way past the Motor City defenseman and sniped
a quick shot to tie the game. The Chiefs were playing well though and
led the game 2-1 after one period. The second period was a strong one
for St. Louis as they peppered 19 shots at the Chiefs goaltender.
Despite the domination, the Jr. Blues scored only one goal as Brandon
Bollig converted a Tony Jost pass on the power play.
With the game tied in the third period, Ken Grasso scored
another big goal for the Jr. Blues. This time Bollig had
the assist as the Jr. Blues took their first lead of the game with 14 minutes
to play. Barry Baxter then deposited a rebound off a Pete
Wildhaber goal on the power play. Grasso also
assisted on the goal with a face-off win. Tom Craig then
scored his second goal on a two on one with C.J. Chappell
driving the net, as he undressed the goaltender with a nifty move. Blake
Yanics was very good in net making 31 saves to improve his record to
9-0-0.
