Jr. Blues.

Jay Roux's second period goal stood up as the game winner.

Max Ozawa Steals Win with Impressive Shutout!
It was his second consecutive shutout for the Jr. Blues
goaltender Max Ozawa. This time he had no
room for error as he made the Jr. Blues lone goal stand up
until 17 seconds remained with the Jr. Blues empty net goal.
Ozawa faced 28 shots as he controlled rebounds
all game. Ozawa's shutout was his third of
the season and has 4 wins, and only a OT and Shootout loss in
his last 6 games. It was a heads up play by defenseman Andrew
Clark who started the only scoring play for the Jr.
Blues. On the point, he faked a shot and made a cross
ice feed to Justin Roux who riffled a shot of
the goal post. The rebound went right to Jay Roux
who tapped it into the net half-way though the game. Ozawa
made that goal stand up until Ryan Devine scored
an empty net goal with 17 seconds remaining. The Jr.
Blues travel to Toledo for two big games this weekend then
enjoy an 8 game home-stand to finish the season.

League
vs. Peoria Mustangs
|

Zach Hamilton scored a power play goal in the Jr. Blues loss.

J.P. Burkemper scored early to give the Jr. Blues a
lead they couldn't hold.
|
Jr. Blues Give Away Game to Mustangs
The Jr. Blues started slow but scored the only goal of the first
period. Jack Berger started the play in the
neutral zone getting the puck to Mike Daniels.
Daniels hit J.P. Burkemper with a
perfect pass as Burkemper redirected the puck into
the net. In the second period with the Jr. Blues on the
power play the Jr. Blues made a bad turnover and didn't pursue
the back check leading to the Mustangs shorthanded goal.
Then with the Jr. Blues in their own zone, they missed numerous
opportunities to clear and allowed the point man an open shot
that was deflected by the wide open man in front giving the
Mustangs the lead. On the power play once again, Zach
Hamilton scored a great goal one-timing a pass from Justin
Roux as Jay Roux also assisted.
But late in the period a Jr. Blues brain-lock led to another
Mustang goal. Again it was a shot from the point
that cost the goal. In the third period with the Jr. Blues
pressuring they couldn't tie the score. Then it was
another defensive lapse that led to the soft shot from the point
bouncing into the net to make the final 4-2.

Zach Hamilton netted two third period goals to insure
the victory.

Justin Roux scored the first goal of the game and added two assists.

Jay Roux recorded 3 assists in the Jr. Blues victory.

Max Ozawa recorded his second shutout of the season making 25 saves.

Jr. Blues Fly Past Motor City 5-0!
With the Jr. Blues facing a must win game to hold on to the
eighth and final playoff spot they responded with resolve.
The conditions in the Canfield Rink were difficult with the
temperature somewhere below 20 degrees. Goaltender Max
Ozawa was hot in goal recording 25 saves in his
shutout but his water bottle was frozen solid after one
period of play. Justin Roux got the Jr.
Blues going scoring on a 2 on 1 break with his brother Jay.
Justin made a quick shot beating the
goaltender cleanly. Late in the period, Chris
Hutton gave the Jr. Blues a 2-0 lead. The play
was started by Andrew Kurlandski who made a
nifty move behind the net setting up Phil Blackwood
all alone in front. Blackwood was robbed
but Hutton banged home the rebound. In
the second period the Jr. Blues continued to pressure out
shooting the Chiefs 15-6. Andrew Kurlandski
scored one of those second effort goals to extend the lead.
Phil Blackwood started the power play goal
with a pass to Grant Boyd who one timed a shot
on net. Kurlandski deflected the shot
and while being checked on to the ice converted the rebound
from his belly. The third period was more of a control
type of period for the Jr. Blues. Zach Hamilton
drilled a puck in for a 4-0 lead. Justin Roux
and Jay Roux assisted on the goal. Then
the Roux crew set up Hamilton
again as he one timed a perfect shot to make the final 5-0.
The Jr. Blues hold a slim margin for the final playoff spot
and host the Peoria Mustangs this weekend at the Affton Ice
Rink for two very big games.

League
vs. Michigan Ice Dogs
|

John Wright scored his first CSHL goal tying the
score with 3:28 remaining in the game for the Jr. Blues.

Justin Roux scored a goal and an assist in the
third period.
|
Jr. Blues Comeback Wasted!
In a vitally important game for the Jr. Blues they showed
great resolve but had nothing to show for their work.
The Michigan Ice Dogs took the first period lead on a 2
on 1 break after a Jr. Blues defenseman fell down. Early
in the second period Ryan Devine, who was taking
the place of Phil Blackwood who couldn't answer
the bell with the flu, sent Andrew Kurlandski
and Chris Hutton in on a 2 on 1 break. Kurlandski
made a slick move and pass to Hutton who tapped
in the goal to tie the score. The Ice Dogs quickly
responded and scored on a rebound to take a 2-1 lead.
The Jr. Blues then took 2 undisciplined penalties and the Ice
Dogs converted the 5 on 3 power play to take a 2 goal lead.
The Jr. Blues tightened the score with CJ Jung
scoring on the power play to make it 3-2 after two periods.
Early in the third, the Jr. Blues made a costly turnover that
led to the Ice Dogs goal. Down 4-2 the Jr. Blues
pressured. Justin Roux scored on a rebound
of a John Wright shot that was deflected by Jay
Roux to cut the lead to 3-2. With the Jr. Blues
swarming the Ice Dogs, John Wright scored his
first CSHL goal as he came in from the point to pounce on a
rebound in a mad scramble. Justin Roux and
Jay Roux made the play keeping the puck alive in
the scramble. With less than a minute remaining in the
game the Jr. Blues let a mental defensive lapse beat them,
wasting their comeback effort. The Ice Dogs added an
empty net goal to make the final 6-4.

Jack Berger nets the game winner with 3:48 remaining in the game.

J.P. Burkemper scored a goal and added an assist on the game winning
goal.

Chris Hutton's goal and assist were key to the Jr.
Blues win.

Jr. Blues Win Wild Game against Quad City!
What appeared to be a blowout for the Jr. Blues almost turned
into a nightmare. Just 19 seconds into the Game the Jr.
Blues struck first. Phil Blackwood took a
breakout pass and quickly hit Chris Hutton.
Hutton using his speed turned it into a 2 on 1
break and made a perfect pass to Andrew Kurlandski
for the tap in goal. Later in the period, J.P.
Burkemper picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone.
Burkemper then skated by 3 Jr. Flames and made a
terrific move to give the Jr. Blues a 2-0 lead. The
second period started great as Jay Roux
converted a Zach Hamilton rebound.
Justin Roux also assisted on the goal. While on
the power play, John Wright broke up a one on
one rush and hit Phil Blackwood with a long
pass. Blackwood tipped the puck ahead to Chris
Hutton who went in on the breakaway scoring a perfect
shot. With the game at 4-0, all looked well for the Jr.
Blues. But that's when the game got a little crazy.
The Jr. Flames scored 2 late second period goals to make it
4-2. Then early in the third, they scored again to
make it 4-3. With just over 4 minutes remaining in the
game, the Jr. Flames tied the score at 4. But the Jr.
Blues showed some resolve as just 25 seconds later they
responded. The Jr. Blues quickly attacked the zone.
Ryan Armstrong held a puck in and got it into
the corner. Ryan Devine then cycled to J.P.
Burkemper who circled behind the net and walked in
front with a quick shot. Jack Berger was
right there to pounce on the rebound and win the game for the
Jr. Blues. The win kept the Jr. Blues in the 8th and
final playoff spot. The road sweep was the Jr. Blues 3rd
in their last 4 weekend trips. Next up for the Jr. Blues
are two huge games in Detroit against the Michigan Ice Dogs
and the Motor City Chiefs. Both teams are battling
the Jr. Blues for position in the standings.

League
vs. Dubuque Thunderbirds
|

Jr. Blues line of Zach Hamilton, Jay Roux and Justin
Roux scored 3 goals with each tallying a goal and 2 assists.

Stu Scott won his first ever game in Dubuque.
|
Jr. Blues Silence Dubuque Thunderbirds 5-2!
With over 2100 fans packed into the Five Flags Civic Center in
Dubuque, the Jr. Blues quickly quieted the crowd. First it
was Grant Boyd blasting a shot from the point on
the power play just 3 minutes into the game. CJ Jung
and Chris Hutton assisted on the goal. 2
minutes later the Jr. Blues found themselves on the power play
again. This time Grant Boyd was the
playmaker as he made a picture perfect pass to send Chris
Hutton on a breakaway. Hutton made
no mistake with a nifty move and the Jr. Blues had a quick 2-0
lead. CJ Jung also assisted on the goal.
The Jr. Blues then got production out of a new line combination.
Zach Hamilton skated with the Roux twins
and the line quickly made an impact. After Hamilton
won a battle in the corner he chipped the puck to Jay Roux.
Jay started to skate behind the net and then made
a Gretzky like behind the back pass to brother Justin
who was streaking in from the slot. Justin
roofed the shot and the Jr. Blues had a 3-0 lead just 10
minutes into the game.
After a late 1st period goal by Dubuque, the Jr. Blues went back
to work in the second period. Justin Roux
created a 2 on 1 break with his brother Jay.
Justin centered the puck but Jay was
being hauled down by the defenseman. The goaltender then
poked the puck into the high slot and Zach Hamilton
snapped a quick shot to give the Jr. Blues their 3 goal lead
once again. The Thunderbirds cut the lead once again but
the Jr. Blues quickly responded. This time Justin
Roux stole the puck at center ice and created a 2 on 1
for Hamilton and Jay Roux. Hamilton
passed it to Jay Roux who directed past the
goaltender to make it 5-2. The third period was
anti-climatic as the Jr. Blues silenced the large crowd and
allowed only 5 Dubuque third period shots. Stu Scott
was strong the entire game making 26 saves on 28 shots.
Before Stu joined the Jr. Blues last season had
previously played in the MnJHL against the Thunderbirds and had
never won a game at Five Flags.

vs. Flint Jr. Generals
|
|

Mike Daniels scored to force overtime and a shoot
out.
|
Jr. Blues Lose in a Shootout!
The Jr. Blues came out flying in the first period out
shooting the Jr. Generals 14-5. But unfortunately no
goals were scored. The second period was even but the
Jr. Generals scored the only goal. In the third
period, the Jr. Blues again were dominating out shooting
Flint 13-6. Mike Daniels deflected
a Ryan Armstrong shot to tie the game and
force OT. Johnny Wright also assisted on
the goal. After a scoreless OT, the game was
decided in a shootout. The Jr. Blues were unable
to score in their five shots and lost the Shootout 1-0. Max
Ozawa was strong in net making 24
saves on 26 shots. For the weekend the Jr. Blues
outshot the Jr. Generals 73-51 but only managed 2 goals and
one point in the standings for their hard work.

League
vs. Flint Jr. Generals
|

Zach Hamilton scored the lone St. Louis goal.
|
Jr. Blues Lose to Flint 3-1
The Jr. Blues played a fine game but couldn't muster the
win against the second place Flint Jr. Generals. The first
period was played evenly but the Jr. Generals led 2-1. The
second period was all St. Louis as they outshot the Flint
squad 19-6 but couldn't score. The third period again was
frustrating with the only tally being an empty net goal in the
final seconds for Flint.
