vs. Chicago Force
|
|
Stu Scott recorded his first CSHL shutout making 25 saves.
Phil Blackwood scored two show-stopping goals to lead the Jr. Blues.
|
Jr. Blues Scott Shuts-out Force 5-0!
The Jr. Blues played much better today as they controlled the
game from start to finish. Late in the first period the
Jr. Blues were on the power play. CJ Jung
picked up the puck behind his net and hit Tommy Lange.
Lange skated out of the zone and hit Phil
Blackwood streaking down the wing. Blackwood
sniped a perfect shot over the goaltender's shoulder for the
only goal of the first period. The second period saw Tommy
Lange score his first goal of the season as he
backhanded one by the Force goaltender. Jack
Berger and J.P. Burkemper assisted on
the goal. Moments later, the Jr. Blues put on a strong
fore-check. Chris Hutton chipped a puck to
Andrew Kurlandski who spotted Phil
Blackwood all alone. Blackwood was
robbed on his shot but Kurlandski found the
rebound and gave the Jr. Blues a 3-0 lead. Late in the
period back on the power play, a pretty passing play netted
the Jr. Blues 4th goal. It started with Stu Scott recognizing
a Force line change and hitting Zach Hamilton at
the far blue line. Hamilton directed the
puck to a streaking J.P. Burkemper who charged
into the zone and dropped the puck back to Hamilton.
Hamilton then found Jack Berger
going to the net and hit him with a perfect feed for the easy
tap in. The only goal of the third period as another
spectacular goal by Phil Blackwood. With a
face-off at the St. Louis blue line won by Chris Hutton
to Matt Sieb, Sieb quickly passed
to Andrew Kurlandski. Kurlandski
took one stride then hit Phil Blackwood on the
wing streaking into the zone. This time his shot was off
the crossbar and in for the 5th and final goal of the game.
Stu Scott was steady and strong throughout as he
recorded his first CSHL shutout. The win all but
clinches a playoff spot for the Jr. Blues as they set back the
9th place Force to 11 points behind the 8th place Jr. Blues.
With this weekend off, four games remain at home the
first two weekends of March to finish the regular season.

Jr. Blues Beat Chicago 2-1 with Late Goal!
The Chicago Force scored the only goal of the first period in a
poorly played stanza for the Jr. Blues as they were outshot
14-12. The second period was much better as the Jr.
Blues dominated with a 17-3 shot advantage but could only muster
one goal. The goal was a power play goal that started
behind the Jr. Blues net. CJ Jung carried
the puck up ice and hit Chris Hutton who carried
into the offensive zone. Hutton then hit Zach
Hamilton who put a quick shot on goal and then pounced
on his own rebound for the goal. The Jr. Blues missed many
opportunities in the third including Phil Blackwood ringing
a snipe off the crossbar but the game remained tied. With
31 seconds left in the game the Jr. Blues had a face-off deep in
the defensive zone. Tommy Lange won the draw
cleanly back to CJ Jung. Jung
lofted a high floater over the Chicago defenseman and coming to
a stop in the Chicago zone. J.P. Burkemper
hustled and got to the puck just as the Chicago defenseman did
and quickly stole the puck. The puck was then picked up by
a hustling Jack Berger who went in alone on the
goaltender moving from one side to the other with the move and
the game winning goal with just 21 seconds remaining. Max
Ozawa was strong in net making 23 saves on 24 shots.

Jr. Blues Even Season Series with Cleveland
Winning 5-2!
The Jr. Blues are still desperately trying to hold on to the
8th and final playoff spot and needed another win to help
their cause. After being down 1-0 after the first
period, the game changed in a blink of an eye. Just
after successfully killing a penalty, Justin Roux
and Jay Roux combined for a great passing goal
to tie the score. Justin scored the goal
with Jay getting the assist. 30 seconds
later the Roux twins set up line mate Zach
Hamilton who flipped a backhander in to give the Jr.
Blues the lead. 5 minutes later Sammy Davis
picked a puck off the boards at the hash mark and slid to
the slot before roofing a perfect shot to give the Jr. Blues
a 3-1 lead. After blowing a 3-1 lead the day before in
the third period, the Jr. Blues took a different approach.
They attacked the Jr. Lumberjacks and finally forced a
penalty. Grant Boyd one-timed a blast
from the point off a perfect Phil Blackwood
pass to make it 4-1. Andrew Kurlandski
also assisted on the goal. After the Jr. Lumberjacks
scored on a 5 on 3 power play, they pulled their goaltender
and Mike Daniels scored with Tommy Lange
and CJ Jung assisting. Stu Scott
was very solid making 24 saves on 26 shots for the win.

Jr. Blues Defeat Cleveland in a Shootout!
The Jr. Blues seemed to have learned from the previous weekend
and started this game strong. Andrew Kurlandski
tipped a CJ Jung shot from the point to score
the game's first goal. Phil Blackwood
started the play also assisted. On the power play, Phil
Blackwood set up Tom Lange who took a
quick shot with Andrew Kurlandski knocking in
the rebound for a 2-0 Jr. Blues lead. The second period
started with a Jr. Blues power play as Phil Blackwood
scored from a bad angle with CJ Jung and Grant
Boyd assisting. With a 3-0 lead the Jr. Blues
seemed to have most of the scoring chances in the rest of the
period but the Jr. Lumberjacks scored on the power play to
make it 3-1. The third period had the Jr. Blues missing
numerous scoring chances and the Jr. Lumberjacks converting
two of theirs to force OT. Amazingly the Jr. Blues
killed 2 penalties in the 5 minute OT to force a shootout.
Chris Hutton, the Jr. Blues second shooter,
scored first with a great move. The Jr. Lumberjacks tied
the score on the next shooter. The shootout went to the
6th shooter. After the Lumberjacks missed, Zach
Hamilton won the game with his goal much to the
delight of the home crowd. Max Ozawa was
terrific in the OT and the shootout recorded the win.
