St. Louis'
Jost Too Much for Quad City!
Tim Jost has been on a scoring tear as of late and
the Quad City Express were not going to slow him down. Jost
scored the game's first goal 10 minutes in as Ryan Loach
and Tom Lange assisted. Chad Larkowski
scored to make it 2-0 on a Kyle Gouge rebound as Bret
Morrell assisted. The Express cut the lead to 2-1
but Tim Jost again had the answer. While the
Jr. Blues were short handed, Tom Lange banked one
out of the zone as Jost snuck behind the Express
defense. Jost made no mistake on the
breakaway. The Express again crept back into the game
taking advantage of a Jr. Blues give-away leading to a 3 on 1
break for their goal. But only 93 seconds later Eddie
Effinger netted his 20th goal of the season as he banged
home a Branden Moran rebound. Ryan
Kretzer also assisted on the goal. Grant
Everett opened the third period with a breakaway goal
with Kyle Gouge and Chad Larkowski
assisting. Chris Saracino scored a
spectacular unassisted goal breaking up an Express rush and
reversing the play undressing one defenseman before snapping a
perfect shot. Tim Jost then secured his
hat-trick snipping a quick shot on a 2 on 1 rush. The goal

Jr. Blues
Blank the Mustangs Again!
The Jr. Blues once again were faced with a packed Owens Center
crowd armed with cowbells and ready to explode after the Friday
night Jr. Blues shutout. Once again, the Jr. Blues quickly
quieted the huge crowd. Tom Lange took a
breakout pass from Ryan Loach and went flying into
the Mustang zone. Lange undressed the
Mustang defenseman and snapped a perfect shot to give the Jr.
Blues the lead just 53 seconds into the game. The Jr.
Blues continued to pressure the Mustangs with an aggressive
forecheck and a quick transition game. Pat Dolan,
from deep in his zone, hit Ryan Loach at the
Mustang blue line with a perfect pass. As the Mustang
defender was checking Loach, he let a quick shot
that 5 holed the goaltender and stunned the Peoria faithful.
Later in the period, Cal Heeter made two fantastic
saves and defenseman Bret Morrell cleared a sure
goal away just inches from the goal line to keep the Jr. Blues 2
goal lead.
The second period was the Mustangs best period of the weekend
but Heeter was up to the challenge making 14 saves
in the period. With a face-off just 9 seconds remaining in
the period and the Jr. Blues on the power play, Tim Jost
won the draw clean to Bret Morrell. Morrell
fired a quick pass to Tom Lange who just missed
tapping in back door but then skated behind the net and centered
to Jost who deposited a backhander with 6 seconds
remaining in the period.
The third period saw the Mustangs show their complete
frustration from the two game dominance of the Jr. Blues. Tim
Jost scored a power play goal early in the period.
The play was another pretty passing play as Ryan Loach
hit Tom Lange streaking towards the net on the
rush. Jost tapped in the Lange
rebound for the goal. Then a few moments later, Brendan
Sheehan got in on the fun with a terrific effort on the
power play. Morrell skated the puck from
behind his net and hit Ryan Kretzer in the neutral
zone. Kretzer quickly hit Sheehan
who skated in the left wing side. After a delay move, Sheehan
drove towards the net and tallied the final goal of the game.
Cal Heeter recorded his 6 shutout of the season
making 29 saves.
The weekend sweep was nothing new for the Jr. Blues in Peoria.
In the intense rivalry the Jr. Blues have had a strong
upper hand. The Jr. Blues improved their all time record
in the Owens Center to 11 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie.
The impressive weekend most likely was their only sweep in which
the Mustangs were held scoreless. Without much to cheer
for, the cowbells slowly vacated the Owens Center without ever
having a reason to ring.

Jr.
Blues Shut Down the Mustangs 3-0!
While both teams have anxiously awaited this weekend as the
two top teams in the CSHL met for the first time in Peoria.
The Mustangs have been making numerous moves to their roster
in recent weeks and have been the hottest team in the CSHL
besides the Jr. Blues. The packed Friday night crowd
was armed with cowbells and great expectations. The
Jr. Blues quieted the crowd in the first period. Grant
Everett finished a tic-tac-toe passing play to give
the Jr. Blues the lead. The Jr. Blues had numerous
opportunities as the launched 18 shots in the first period
but Everett's goal was the only tally of the
period.
The second period found the Jr. Blues and the Mustangs at a
stand off. But it was the Jr. Blues power play that
got the next goal. Bret Morrell skated
the puck from deep in his own end. Upon reaching
center ice, Morrell hit Branden Moran
streaking down the right wing boards. Moran used
his speed to gain a better shooting lane and snapped a
perfect shot over the goaltender's shoulder on the short
side to put the Jr. Blues up 2-0. Robby Moss
was impressive in the period making 11 saves.
The third period started all wrong for St. Louis. Two
consecutive penalties gave the Mustangs some life. But
Robby Moss was up to the pressure keeping them
off the board. The Jr. Blues once again used their
power play chance to their advantage. Branden
Moran once again scored the goal. Grant
Everett received the breakout pass and quickly hit Kyle
Gouge. Gouge then hit Moran
who delayed going into the zone but once he did he undressed
the Mustang defender then snapped a wicked shot off the
crossbar to finish the scoring. Robby Moss
was outstanding throughout the contest making 33 saves and
recording his 5th shutout.
