Jr. Blues Sweep the Force with 8-3 Win!

The Jr. Blues started the game strong dominating early.  Phil Blackwood scored a power play goal to start things off.  Blackwood took a terrific pass from CJ Jung sending him in the zone.  Blackwood knocked home his own rebound on the play started with a Chris Hutton face-off win.  The Force answered back with 2 quick goals and led 2-1 after one period.  Five minutes into the second period, the power went off at the rink delaying the game for about 45 minutes.  After the teams came back on the ice the Jr. Blues continued to pressure the Force.  Ryan Devine scored on a great cycling play with line mates Justin and Jay Roux.  Moments later Andrew Kurlandski came down the wing and blasted a shot past the Chicago goalie to take the lead.  Phil Blackwood sent Kurlandski in after John Wright made the breakout to Blackwood.  Just 2 minutes later Justin Roux shot a slapper from the blue line beating the goaltender almost exactly the same way.  Jay Roux and John Wright assisted the goal.  Andrew Kurlandski then scored a power play goal walking the puck out of the corner with CJ Jung and Chris Hutton assisting.  Early in the third period, Mike Daniels scored a coast to coast shorthanded goal.  Later in the period Ryan Armstrong blasted a goal from the point with J.P. Burkemper and Mike Daniels assisting.  J.P. Burkemper converted a Grant Boyd rebound with Jack Berger also assisting on the goal to finish the Jr. Blues scoring.

The win put the Jr. Blues over the .500 mark for the first time since October.   It also jumped the Jr. Blues in the Standings from 10th to 7th place.  The Jr. Blues next host the Flint Jr. Generals on January 5-6, who earlier this season beat the Jr. Blues 4-3 in OT and 7-1 in Flint.

Burkemper and John Wright assisted on the goal.  The Force started the second period strong taking the first 8 shots, but goaltender Stu Scott was strong making all the saves.  Halfway through the period, Phil Blackwood sent Andrew Kurlandski down the wing.  Kurlandski tried to return the pass to Blackwood but the Force defenseman deflected the puck into his own net.  The  Jr. Blues seemed to rally after the fluke goal dominating the rest of the period.  Early in the third period, Jack Berger skated down the wing then went behind the net and scored on a wrap around making it 3-1.  J.P. Burkemper and John Wright assisted on the goal.  Then Matt Sieb converted a Phil Blackwood pass with a blast from the point to make it 4-1.  Andrew Kurlandski started the play also assisted.  Jack Berger put the icing on the cake as he wristed a quick shot off a 3 on 2 break with line mates Mike Daniels and J. Jr. Blues Lose Heartbreaker in OT 6-5 to Cleveland!

With the Jr. Blues playing terribly for the first 25 minutes of the game and Cleveland holding a 3-0 lead the Jr. Blues looked destined to be routed by the Jr. Lumberjacks.  Mike Daniels scored on a quick shot with Grant Boyd and Jack Berger assisting the power play goal.  With the Jr. Blues killing a penalty, Andrew Kurlandski stole the puck from the Cleveland point man and tipped it ahead to Phil Blackwood who replaced the expiring player's penalty.  Blackwood scored on a terrific move to make the score 3-2 as the goal changed the momentum of the game.  Moments later Blackwood again showed his skills this time setting up Chris Hutton in the slot who made no mistake to tie the game.  Late in the second period, the Jr. Blues were on the power play and J.P. Burkemper won the battle in front on a Ryan Armstrong rebound to give the Jr. Blues the lead.  Jack Berger also assisted on the goal.  The Jr. Blues had complete control of the third period dominating the Jr. Lumberjacks.  But an unexplainable call went against the Jr. Blues.  On a shot that took a fluke bounce the Cleveland forward knocked the bouncing puck in mid-air to tie the score on the power play.  8 seconds later the Jr. Lumberjacks forward made a pass from the boards that deflected off a Jr. Blues defenseman past the goaltender to give Cleveland the lead.  But the Jr. Blues refused to die, pressuring until the end.  Grant Boyd tied the score on a blast of a Chris Hutton rebound with less than 2 minutes to go to force OT.  In the OT, St. Louis had most of the scoring chances but it was the Lumberjacks who converted giving the Jr. Blues a heartbreaking OT loss.

Jr. Blues Lose on Late Goal to Cleveland

The Jr. Blues took most of the play to the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks but in the end lost on a late goal.  After the Jr. Lumberjacks scored the game's first goal, the Jr. Blues tied the game.  J.P. Burkemper took a perfect feed from Nick Garlik on the breakout.  Burkemper put on the burners beating the defense and then rocketed a perfect backhander just under the bar to tie the game.  Mike Daniels also assisted on the goal.  Andrew Kurlandski converted a Phil Blackwood pass to give the Jr. Blues the lead after Chris Hutton won a battle in the corner to set up the play.  With the game tied late in the third period a defensive mistake led to the Lumberjacks goal.  The 3-2 loss was particularly discouraging considering the Jr. Blues owned most of the scoring chances of the game out shooting Cleveland 45-35.

Jack Berger scored the lone Jr. Blues goal in their loss to Peoria.

Jr. Blues Lose 6-1 to Mustangs

In a game that started heavily in the favor of the young Jr. Blues, adversity seemed to have taken its toll as the game wore on.  The Jr. Blues enjoyed most of the scoring chances of the first period but were down 1-0 on a Peoria goal scored on a penalty shot.  The Mustangs scored early in the second but Jack Berger cut the lead to 2-1 scoring on a rebound of a shot by Anthony Condellire that was deflected by Zach Hamilton.  With the Jr. Blues once again pressuring they were put on the penalty kill.  A high stick injured a Jr. Blues player early in the penalty and the Mustangs took advantage of the non call and scored.  The Mustangs took full advantage of the momentum scoring 3 third period goals.
