Jr.
Blues Use 8 Different Scorers to
Beat Jr. Owls
The Jr. Blues played the Grand Rapids Jr. Owls for the first
time. Apparently the Jr. Owls were not aware of the potent Jr. Blues
power play. Five Jr. Blues power play goals powered the Jr. Blues to a
9-3 win. But it was the Jr. Owls who scored the games first goal.
Late in the period, Ken Grasso was set up alone by Tim
Jost. Grasso made no mistake in close as Danny
Brown also assisted on the goal.
The second period was all Jr. Blues as they tallied four
goals. Kyle O'Kane capped a great passing play with line
mates Eddie Effinger and Zach Barron.
Moments later, O'Kane took a rebound from goaltender Trey
Spiller and quickly created a two on one break with Barron.
Barron drove the net and O'Kane sniped a perfect
shot off the bar for a Jr. Blues 3-1 lead. Late in the period, Brandon
Bollig stole the puck from the Grand Rapids goalie and scored in the
vacated net. Right after the center ice face-off, Paul Puglisi
sprung Danny Brown on a breakaway. Brown deked
one way and went the other totally fooling the goaltender. The third
period was more of the same, Tony Jost converted a power play.
Then Cory Spradling won a battle in front for another St. Louis
goal. Zach Barron continued the power play display as he
took a perfect back door pass from Mike Keeven. Tom
Craig scored the last goal, also a power play goal with Bret
Morrell and Brenden Sheehan assisting.

The Jr. Blues found themselves on the wrong end of a 2-0 score
after the first period in the opening game of the CSHL Showcase against the
Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks. Cory Spradling must have taken
it personal as he scored 3 unanswered goals in the second period for a natural
hat-trick. Spradling was assisted on all three goals by Tony
Jost. Zach Barron capped a tremendous cycling play
as he redirected a Kyle O'Kane pass to give the Jr. Blues a 4-2
lead after two. Eddie Effinger scored early in the third
using a defenseman as a screen as the Jr. Blues opened their Showcase with a
5-2 win.

Blues Earn Two More Points in 5-3 Win
The Flint Jr. Generals gave the Jr. Blues all
the contest they wanted in Sunday's match-up. St. Louis
scored two-first period goals and seemed to be in control.
Cory Spradling started the scoring with Tim
Jost and Tony Jost assisting. Kyle
O'Kane finished a spectacular passing play from Zach
Barron and Eddie Effinger late in the
period. Tom Craig deposited a rebound from a
Bret Morrell shot from the point midway through
the second period. The Jr. Generals responded with a goal
just moments later. With a 3-1 lead in heading into the
third period, the Jr. Blues wanted to get that 3 goal lead.
They did with Kyle O'Kane's second goal of the
game with Barron getting his second assist.
Then the Jr. General made it interesting scoring two goals to
cut the St. Louis lead to 4-3. Tim Jost
capped off a pretty passing play from Tony Jost
and Cory Spradling on the power play to seal the

Blues Stun Jets With Two Goals
in Final 1:22 To Win
It took awhile for the Jr. Blues to start playing in the
frigid conditions of the Lakeland Red Rink. But despite the lack of a
music, PA or fans, the Jr. Blues created enthusiasm for themselves. The
Jets led 1-0 after the first period. Andrew Gibson then
scored his first CSHL goal with a blast from the point. C.J.
Chappell started the play and received the assist. The Jets
countered on a floater from the point that hit a helmet and deflected in the
Jr. Blues net. The second period ended 2-1 in favor of the Jets.
The third period was a wild one. The Jr. Blues tied the score on a Zach
Barron goal. Kyle O'Kane made the play with a
perfect pass and Barron made no mistake in tight. Chris
Stock also assisted on the power play goal. The Jets took
advantage of a St. Louis defenseman losing an edge and scored a breakaway goal
with 7 minutes remaining. With the Jets seemingly in control, a very
undisciplined penalty by the Jets cost them with 2 minutes remaining.
The Jr. Blues warmed up their power play that had not seen action until the
third period despite the Jets tackling strategies. Mike Keeven
scored as he cut in from the point and sniped a perfect wrist shot as Eddie
Effinger hit him with a perfect pass with 1:22 remaining in the game.
The Jr. Blues were not satisfied with a tie at this point as the swarmed the
Jets zone for the next minute. Pete Wildhaber made a great
play at the point and shot, Effinger deflected the game winner
with :23 remaining in the contest. Blake Yanics was a huge

Jr.
Blues Win 5-2 in a Tough
Battle with Chicago
The Jr. Blues were desperate to gain a little
revenge from their tie on Saturday. However the Force were
just as confident they could spoil the Jr. Blues weekend even
more. After a scoreless first period, the Jr. Blues struck
first. Barry Baxter buried a one timer in
the slot off a great play by Tony Jost and Brandon
Bollig in the corner. Cory Spradling
gave the Jr. Blues a 2 goal lead on the power play. After
a Ryan Kretzer face-off win, Tony Jost
passed the puck back to point man Andrew Gibson
who shot. Spradling converted the rebound
and the Jr. Blues looked like they were in control. A
Chicago power play goal with one minute remaining in the period
got the Force back into the contest. Then in the closing
seconds Pat Dolan blasted a shot from the point
that found the twine. The goal was a huge momentum builder
with only :00.3 of a second remaining.
The Force were not dead though, as they pulled
within one with 13 minutes remaining. But Eddie
Effinger put the Jr. Blues back up by two with Kyle
O'Kane assisting. Blake Yanics then
made the save of the game robbing the Force on a back door play
on their power play. The Jr. Blues added a power play goal with Zach
Barron knocking the water bottle off the top of the net
on a Pete Wildhaber feed.

Jr.
Blues Battle Chicago Force to a 2-2 Tie
The Jr. Blues showed no signs of rust after a two week layoff
in the early going. The first period was a complete domination of the
Force as the Jr. Blues outshot Chicago 22-9 in the period. Fantastic
goaltending by Chicago kept the game scoreless through one period.
In the second period, Zach Barron feathered a perfect goal mouth
pass to Kyle O'Kane on a two on one break. O'Kane
made no mistake as the Jr. Blues took the lead. The Force tied the score
quickly though and the game headed into the third period tied 1-1. The
Force took the lead early in the period. With the Force defense holding
strong, it appeared if the Jr. Blues were running out of time. But an
incredible shift by the O'Kane, Barron, Effinger
line made the difference. The three forwards battled deep in the Chicago
zone relentlessly. With Cory Spradling replacing Barron
on the fly, battles won behind the net and in the corner by Effinger
and Spradling set up O'Kane in front. O'Kane
was knocked down upon receiving the pass but from his knees he somehow was
able to deposit the puck in the net. After no scoring in the OT, the
game ended in a tie.
