|
Jr. Blues Win Long Shootout!
The Peoria Mustangs played much better in this contest and
forged to a 3-0 lead late in the 2nd period. Being
the come-back team the Jr. Blues are, they decided to end
the regular season in sensational fashion. With 3
minutes remaining in the second period Phil
Blackwood finished off a pretty passing play from Andrew
Kurlandski and Jarrod Mermis.
A moment later, Tim Jost banged home a power
play goal with Ryan Loach and Cory
Spradling assisting. The assist gave Spradling

Early in the third period Peoria scored to give them a
seemingly comfortable 4-2 lead. But as the Jr. Blues
have done all season, they battled to the final whistle.
Jarrod Mermis scored a power play goal with Andrew
Kurlandski and Phil Blackwood
assisting. With 1:20 left in the game, the kid line
struck again with Phil Blackwood launching a
long dump in that bounced by the Peoria goaltender to tie
it at 4. The Jr. Blues had 5 shots to Peoria's 0 in
the OT but couldn't get one past the goalie. Then,
one of the most exciting shootouts witnessed at the Affton
Ice Rink took place. After 5 shooters, neither team
had scored and the Shootout went into sudden death rounds.
Finally, Scott Keeven broke the hearts of
the Mustangs as he was the 9th Jr. Blues shooter and the
only shooter to score out of 18. Stuart Scott

Jr. Blues Lose to Chicago in Shootout
In a game that had many strange events, the Jr. Blues lost in
a shootout 4-3 to the Chicago Force. The Force scored

Jost answered with a snipe over the goalie's shoulder
on the power play off a Scott Keeven feed to tie
the score. Cory Spradling then gave the
Jr. Blues the lead depositing a rebound from Bill
McMillen. The Force tied the score late in the

Blues took the lead. Tim Jost again on the
power play as he knocked home a Joe Combs
rebound. The Force then scored a controversial
goal as they had 6 skaters to the Jr. Blues 3 to tie the game.

intent in making a statement in Peoria. Cory
Spradling got the scoring started for St. Louis as
he deposited a Bill McMillen pass with Tim
Jost also assisting. The Jr. Blues then took
advantage of an undisciplined penalty by the Peoria ruffian
Earl Power-Murphy. Chris Saracino
blasted a shot from the point, cleanly beating the Mustang
goaltender. Scott Keeven and Tim
Jost assisted on the goal.
The second period was marred by many penalties as the Jr.
Blues found themselves on the short end of many of the
calls. Great goaltending by Ian Frenzel
kept the score 2-0. Early in the third period, Cory
Spradling gave the Jr. Blues some breathing room.
On the power play, Ian Frenzel passed the puck
to center ice for Tim Jost. Jost
using speed and a quick move turned the play into a 2 on 1.
Jost made a perfect feed sending Spradling
in alone on the goal. The Jr. Blues again
capitalized on the power play with Chris Saracino
sniping the goal. Saracino set up on the
point by Phil Blackwood and Andrew
Kurlandski, beat the first man and moved into the
slot and made a perfect shot to make it 4-0. With
about 4 minutes to go, the Mustangs had a power play and
pulled their goaltender. Bill McMillen
intercepted a pass and launched the puck from deep in his
own end as the puck went perfectly into the empty Peoria
net. The Mustangs broke Ian Frenzel's
shutout bid with just over 2 minutes remaining on the power
play.

Spradling pass with Paul Puglisi

power play deflecting a Chris Saracino shot.
Spradling assisted on the goal also. Early
in the third period, Cory Spradling made it 4-0
as he stole the puck from the defense and undressed the
goaltender. The Express then scored 3 times in less than
2 minutes to make it a 4-3 game. After a time-out, the
Jr. Blues pressured again drawing a penalty. It was Tim
Jost who scored the pretty power play goal with Bill
McMillen and Paul Puglisi assisting.
Late in the period, Jost intercepted a pass at
the Express blue line. He tapped it to Cory
Spradling who quickly found Jost all
alone in front. Jost out waited the
goaltender and easily deeked the goalie for his hat-trick.

Mermis Late Goal Lifts Jr.
Blues Over Quad City Express!
The first period appeared as if the Jr. Blues never left the
bus. Except for the great goaltending of Ian
Frenzel, the Express owned the entire period.
However, Frenzel was perfect in net making 16
saves in the period. The Express finally broke the
scoreless tie 5 minutes into the second period. The
Jr. Blues answered quickly as Cory Spradling
stripped the puck from a defender and scored on a nifty
breakaway move. Later in the period, Tim Jost
gave the Jr. Blues the lead. Jost was
set up back door by Spradling on the power
play with Bill McMillen assisting. The
Express started the third period with a 5 on 3 power play
goal. The Jr. Blues answered quickly again as Bill
McMillen deposited a perfect Tim Jost
pass with Cory Spradling assisting also.
The Express then tied the game at 3. As the clock was
winding down, Phil Blackwood made a great play
to keep the puck in the offensive zone. Andrew
Kurlandski picked up the loose puck and quickly
passed it back to Blackwood. Blackwood
found Jarrod Mermis in the slot and Mermis
one-timed the pass into the net with just 3 minutes
remaining. Ryan Divito scored an empty
net goal to make the final 5-3. Ian Frenzel ended
up with 42 saves on 45 shots for the win.

Jr. Blues Shock the Force with
Amazing Come Back!
Just when you thought you have seen the Jr. Blues at their
very worst, they came back and showed their very best.
The Force were skating well early and took a quick lead.
Tim Jost tied the score just 16 seconds later
with Scott Keeven and Cory Spradling
assisting. The Force once again took the lead on a
short handed goal. The Jr. Blues responded with a Paul
Puglisi power play goal to tie it up. Puglisi
buried a Jarrod Mermis rebound with CJ
Jung also assisting on the play. Then, the
Force countered with two quick goals to take a 4-2 lead into
the first intermission. CJ Jung blasted
a shot from the point to close the gap to 4-3 with Andrew
Kurlandski and Jarrod Mermis
assisting. The Force then scored a power play goal and
another quick goal to give them a 6-3 lead half way through
the period. Coach Jack Behan quickly
called time-out to try to change the momentum of the game.
It apparently worked as Scott Keeven scored
during a rare 3 on 3 segment of play on a perfect pass from Tim
Jost. Chris Saracino started the
play and earned an assist. With the third period
starting the Jr. Blues were attacking. Tim Jost
then made it a one goal game on a pretty feed from Ryan
Loach with Cory Spradling assisting
also. It looked like the clock was running out as the
Jr. Blues pressured. With 4 minutes to play, Jost
netted his hat-trick goal on a Scott Keeven
rebound to tie the score 6-6. The goal gave Jost
his third game in a row with a hat-trick. The game was not
over though. The Force were awarded a power play with
2:20 remaining and Ian Frenzel was sharp
making 5 big saves. With the Jr. Blues back at full
strength, Tim Jost tipped a puck to Cory
Spradling who was racing down the left wing side.
Spradling delivered a back-hander that
squeaked through the pads and trickled in the net just
inches across the line. Spradling's goal
came with 6.2 seconds remaining in the game. The Jr.
Blues celebrated yet another unlikely come from behind
