Peoria uses shootout to best St. Louis, 7-6 (3-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Peoria Mustangs defeated the St. Louis Jr. Blues in a shootout 7-6 (3-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. St. Louis\’ shootout goal was scored by Mike Lozano. Peoria\’s other shootout goals were scored by Thomas Kolaz and Nathan Chasteen.

Andrew Scofield had one goal and two assists to lead the Mustangs. Scofield scored on the power play 9:50 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A checking from behind penalty on Jacob Debus had put Peoria on the power play. Joshua Hart picked up the assist.

The Jr. Blues\’ power play was ineffective against the Mustangs\’ penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Peoria kept St. Louis\’ goalie busy throughout the game, and Billy Hindle made 26 saves on 33 shots.

Peoria additionally got points from Chasteen, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Blake Ortman, who also had one goal and one assist. Peoria also had goals scored by Sam Turner, Brennan Anderson, and Austin Wisely, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Peoria were Marshall Gevers and Gage VanOrder, who each chipped in one.

The Mustangs were unable to stop the Jr. Blues from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Louis eventually piled up 57 shots on goal.

The Jr. Blues were led by Alex Klaesner, who registered three goals and one assist. St. Louis also got a goal from Tommy Heinzman as well. In addition, St. Louis received assists from Andrew Kovacich, who had two and Alexander Turin, Alexander Carlsson, Andrew McGlynn, and Cory Kettler, who contributed one a piece.

Marc Hayton made 51 saves for Peoria on 57 shots. The Mustangs incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. St. Louis incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
