Fernsler Garners 1st Star Honors

Nov 7, 2011

The North American 3 Hockey League (3HL) today announced the Three Stars of the Week presented by Combat Hockey for the week ending November 6, 2011.  The Three Stars of the Week is a weekly feature during the 2011-12 regular season that honors the top performing players each week of the regular season as nominated by their respective teams.

1st Star: Mitch Fernsler, goaltender, St. Louis Jr. Blues
Fernsler, 19, had his best weekend stretch of the year helping the Jr. Blues to three out of a possible four points during their weekend series against Quad City.  On Saturday, Fernsler stopped all 31 shots sent his way, including shutting down all seven Jr. Flames power plays en route to his first shutout of the season in a 4-0 win.  On Sunday, the Balwin, Missouri native again made 31 saves through regulation in overtime and managed to stop five of six shooters in the shootout, but it wasn’t enough in a close 3-2 shootout loss for the Jr. Blues, earning them just the one point.  "Mitch had a great weekend for us, pitching a 31-save shutout on Saturday and saving 31 of 33 shots and 5 of 6 in the shootout on Sunday,” said St. Louis head coach J.P. Beilsten.  “Mitch was a very big part of us getting three out of four points against a really tough Quad City team that put 11 goals in on us the weekend before."
