Bozeman uses shootout to best St. Louis, 5-4 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Bozeman Icedogs defeated the St. Louis Jr. Blues in a shootout 5-4 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. Bozeman\’s other shootout goal was scored by Gunnar Mogck.

St. Louis\’ power play was ineffective against the Icedogs\’ penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Bozeman\’s goal total was higher than its season average. The Icedogs average 2.2 goals per game. Bozeman\’s penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Icedogs finished with 28 penalty minutes.

Bozeman was helped by Mogck, who finished with two goals. Mogck scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:34 into the third period to make the score 3-3. The Icedogs had gotten the advantage when the Jr. Blues\’ Dalton Parrish was sent off for roughing. Kegan Couture assisted on the tally. Mogck\’s next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Bozeman with 5:33 left in the third period. Jake Nicks picked up the assist. Bozeman additionally got points from Couture, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Bryce Meckes also scored for Bozeman. More assists for Bozeman came via Kyler Chartier, who had two and Brock Loser, Quinn Thibeault, Ryan Erickson, and Kevin Steffey, who each chipped in one.

Bozeman was unable to stop St. Louis from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jr. Blues eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

St. Louis was led by Tommy Heinzman, who had two goals and one assist. Heinzman scored the first of his two goals at 12 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Louis. Sam Maddox provided the assist. Heinzman\’s next tally made the score 3-2 St. Louis with 14:19 left in the second period. St. Louis also got points from Alex Klaesner, who also racked up one goal and one assist. St. Louis also got a goal from Adam Havener as well. In addition, St. Louis received assists from Nikita Ermilov, who had one.

Denijs Romanovskis rejected 38 shots on goal for the Icedogs. Bozeman registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Cooper Cothran made 25 saves for the Jr. Blues on 29 shots. St. Louis incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
